Councilor alleges his repeated pleas for development of his ward turned down

Sopore, Sep 08 (KNO): Residents of Muslimpeer, Baba Yousuf, Kralteng of ward 15 of Sopore town in Baramulla district rued lack of basic amenities in their localities and demanded attention of higher-ups. Locals told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that there is a shortage of drinking water, poor drainage facility and dilapidated roads in the area. "The area has been overlooked by the consecutive governments and nobody seems to be taking our issues seriously,” they said. Bilal Ahmed, a local resident told KNO that they casted votes for the first time just to see the signs of development in their area but unfortunately nothing happened till now on ground. "We have been victimized and befooled by so-called leaders who only visited us to seek votes," he added. "How long will we suffer in the absence of basic necessities? Where is the local Municipal Council? asks Saika, a college student. They appealed to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to look into the matter and redress their grievances at the earliest. Akhtar Rasool, Councilor of the concerned ward when contacted, told KNO that the council and concerned departments have always ignored his ward. He said the reasons are best known to them. "Authorities have turned a deaf ear towards my repeated pleas," he added. "I contested the election just to put an end to the miseries of common people of my ward but the council is playing dirty politics", Akhtar said. . Meanwhile, when contacted the executive officer MC Sopore, Tariq Ahmed told KNO that they are doing their best to redress the genuine grievances of people and if there are some issues, residents can approach the council anytime—(KNO)
